Who is Alex GJ?

I took my first pottery class at the beginning of 2019, and on the walk home I couldn’t stop smiling.

Within a few classes I was officially obsessed.

Seven years later, I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of it.

I love making things that are useful, things that want to be picked up and held, things that are light but strong.

All of my work is created by hand using the slab technique. I love playing with circle motifs and varied surfaces, layering reactive glazes over curved forms. When I’m not working with clay I’m thinking about it, adding new ideas to the list of shapes and mark-making methods I want to explore.

Like I said, obsessed.

After years of making things strictly for friends and family, select pieces are now available at Clay Design Studio in the heart of downtown Toronto, Canada.

I still can’t believe my work is in their windows.

And I’m so glad you found me.
